500 New Jobs Coming to Jefferson County

MT. VERNON -- Several businesses in Mt. Vernon are expanding, and area leaders are looking to capitalize on that growth.

To kickoff the new year, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a "Momentum Summit" on January 26th. The committee planning the summit hopes to connect area businesses with government leaders.

Between Continental tire, Magnum Steel, and two local hospitals, Jefferson County will see around 500 additional jobs in the coming years.

"It gives other companies the ability to expand. It gives people the ability to go into business because we have a larger market here. We can just see great things happening in our economy over the next 3 years," says Mary Ellen Becktel with the Jefferson County Development Corporation.

Area leaders believe the growth in large companies will trickle down to small businesses.

The summit is open to Chamber of Commerce members, and their employees.
